Because I work with the greatest couples, I frequently photograph weddings that feel like something out of a movie — Anna and James’ High Hill Resort Wedding was exactly that. This laid-back, luxury getaway destination is the perfect East Texas wedding venue. I joined Chloe Wall Photo as a second shooter for this one, which was one of the most fun experiences! From the moment I arrived, I knew it would be a sweet, intentional day in every sense.
High Hill Resort (also known as High Hill Farm) is a hidden gem that can be found in the Piney Woods between Tyler and Longview. Being a Tyler Native, I was surprised to find out this luxury venue was so close to where I call home. It’s the kind of East Texas wedding venue that immediately feels like a breath of fresh air. The venue is effortlessly luxurious without being overly formal, which perfectly reflects the kind of couples I love working with: laid-back but intentional.
The property is filled with practical inclusions any couple could benefit from — from the cozy, minimal bungalows where guests can stay and relax, to the breathtaking ceremony and reception space overlooking the vineyard. It felt intimate and expansive all at the same time, which is such a rare combo to have, but what a gift!
Anna and her family spent the morning in one of High Hill Resort’s Villas. The architecture and aesthetic design had my jaw on the floor from the moment I arrived on the property. Floor-to-ceiling windows filled the room with soft, natural light, and every corner was styled with modern, timeless textures and earthy tones. Featuring all you would need in a bridal suite, this villa features inviting living spaces, a fully-equipped kitchen, and multiple spacious areas to enjoy before the hurry of the day. This luxurious retreat added a cozy touch of “home” to Anna and James’ High Hill Resort wedding photos.
Meanwhile, James and his guys were enjoying the morning inside the Gentlemen’s Suite located next to Côte Restaurant. It was a short walk to the ceremony space, which made all the festivities for the men flow smoothly and quickly.
The High Hill Resort wedding ceremony space was breathtaking. Framed by trees standing tall behind the arbor, with florals designed in soft whites and greens, the setup felt romantic and timeless. Anna was escorted across the courtyard to her groom by her dad. Having seen James for the first time at this moment, tears were definitely flowing.
One of my favorite things about second shooting is being able to quietly witness little moments that might go unnoticed, like the nervous hand squeezes, the deep breaths, the teary smiles. This wedding ceremony had no shortage of those.
After the ceremony, family photos were quick and efficient, thanks to the lead photographer, Chloe! Similarly, as a Dallas wedding photographer, I take pride in creating an organized family shot list before the wedding day. My goal is to have my couples feel relaxed during family photos rather than wrangling their families. This can only happen through the intentional preparation we do before the big day arrives.
To document the brightest newlywed bliss, we wandered the High Hill Farm property for portraits and WOW! The light was unreal. Documenting Anna and James among the vineyard, at the ceremony site, and running through the back field, everything felt soft, glowy, and effortlessly romantic.
As the sun set, guests gathered under the twinkle lights for an intimate dinner on the outdoor patio. Catered in-house by High Hill’s Côte Restaurant, the guests were treated as kings and queens for the evening. A 5-course dinner was served, consisting of tasty appetizers, premium entrees, and, of course, dessert! There were laughs, intentional conversations, and so much gratitude that was pouring from every direction.
High Hill Resort feels like a true escape. Coming from a destination wedding photographer who has seen all kinds of venues, this East Texas wedding venue brought class and comfort together. With amenities like on-site lodging for guests, a 5-star catering team, and a crisp pool with a view of the vineyard, it’s the kind of venue where you and your guests can settle in and truly be present. And for couples who want a less traditional celebration, it’s flexible enough to make your wedding day feel like you!
It’s a venue that has made its way to the top of my most-loved list! Not just because it photographs beautifully, but because it invites each couple to make it their own space. It welcomes intentionality and encourages you to bring your vision to life, however you would like.
